Frequently Asked Questions

What videoconferencing equipment do you use?

We use the Polycom VSX 5000.

Can a member use their own connectivity?

In some instances users will provide a public IP address. This will be determined on a case by case basis working closely with our technical support personnel. Also, in the unlikely event of an outage or connectivity problem that cannot be resolved immediately, members may be asked to temporarily switch over to their own connectivity.

How is videoconferencing equipment configured?

It is configured and supported remotely over an IP connection.

What technology must be provided by the member?

In most cases, members must provide a communications closet, preferrably near the intended videoconferencing room. A dedicated DSL line will be installed and a nominal amount of network equipment that will require use of a spare power outlet. Appropriate network cabling is also required between the communications closet and the videoconferencing room.

What equipment usage training will be provided?

In-depth training for career services staff and documentation will be provided, although the need for on site support is minimal.

What is the response time for replacing faulty equipment?

In most cases, faulty equipment will be replaced within 24 hours.

Is there any backup connectivity?

At this time, backup will be the member's connectivity.

Is it possible for a law firm to sponsor a specific law school or nonprofit?

The program is set up to provide sponsorship to as many law schools and legal nonprofits as possible. If a law firm wants to provide direct sponsorship to a specific law school or legal nonprofit, every effort will be made to accommodate the request.

Are there optional features that can be added to the videoconferencing equipment?

Courtroom Connect can assist you with purchasing and adding options to your existing videoconferencing equipment. All additions and/or modifications to the equipment must be approved by Courtroom Connect. Contact the Courtroom Connect Technical Support Team for additional information.

My law firm uses an ISDN line for videoconferencing. Is this compatible with the Law School Connect IP lines?

A gateway will need to be established to accommodate ISDN lines. The Courtroom Connect Technical Support Team will need prior notice and will coordinate the videoconference call and establish the gateway at the scheduled time.

Can we schedule multi-point calls with the VSX 5000 camera?

No, but the Courtroom Connect Technical Support Team can make this happen. Contact them to set up the date and time for the multipoint call.

Will there be on-line scheduling for the interviews?

No. Interview scheduling will remain under the control of the Law School Career Services Offices for each law school.

Law School Connect uses IP connections for the member law schools, but we use ISDN for our videoconferencing. If we become members, how will we connect with your member schools?

If you have your own gateway, our technical staff will assist you with testing to ensure connectivity to our IP sites. If you do not have a gateway or would prefer to use ours, our technical support will establish a gateway between your ISDN location and our IP site. While we do not charge members for use of the gateway, there is a $35/call charge for the ISDN call. Because our gateway uses AT&T ISDN service, members on AT&T ISDN long distance will be able to initiate the ISDN call themselves if they wish. In that case, LSC will not charge for the ISDN call because the member, as initiator of the call, will be billed directly by AT&T. Otherwise, the charge will be billed by LSC as the call initiator.

Can non-members interview through the LSC network?

Yes, non-members pay an access fee of $200/hr. If our technical support supplies the gateway, the gateway fee is $75/call.
